PENTECOST OF THE NATIONS 2010
TOGETHER WE PRAY, TOGETHER WE CELEBRATE!
An answer that the worldwide CCR offers in response to the desire expressed by both Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI that the spirituality of Pentecost will spread in the Church for a new "Culture of Pentecost"
John Paul II, May 2004 - Benedict XVI, September 2005
PENTECOST OF THE NATIONS HAS TWO PARTS:
TOGETHER WE PRAY!
Part 1: May 14–22, 2010 – Operation Upper Room
Click here for more information about Operation Upper Room
You can be part of this vision for the CCR in every nation to unite in prayer. Let us weave a dense global "net" of prayer which will be continuous, day and night, during the nine days before Pentecost.
It's an invitation of return to the "Upper Room of Jerusalem", waiting in one heart and in constant prayer (Acts 1:12–14), becoming "burning bushes" in adoration and intercession. (Leo XIII, E. Guerra 1895–1897)
TOGETHER WE CELEBRATE!
Part 2: May 23, 2010 – Pentecost Day Celebrations
Click here for more information about Pentecost Day Celebrations
You can participate in celebrating the great Feast of Pentecost in your nation, city, community, or group.
It's an invitation to respond to the call for New Evangelization so that the "spirituality of Pentecost" will spread in the Church in the power of the Holy Spirit and His gifts.
When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled... they were all filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1)

Imagine what would happen if "unanimous and fervent prayers" were raised in every time zone in the world for nine days!
Imagine what would happen if we witnessed to the power of
the Holy Spirit in every part of the world throughout Pentecost!
Imagine what God could do if we united in prayer and celebration
for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our world!
Imagine our world transformed!
JOURNEYING TOGETHER
Pentecost of the Nations is built on solid ground at the heart of the Church
Deep wells of grace – In 1895, on the promptings of Bl. Elena, Pope Leo XIII asked all the faithful to celebrate a solemn novena (9 days of prayer) perpetually between Ascension and Pentecost for the unity of Christianity. Another strategic moment in our journey was the Apostolic Letter of Pope John Paul II in 2001, Novo Millennio Ineunte, ‘At the beginning of the new millennium”. This letter brings to us a key phrase, Duc in Altum – Cast your nets out into the deep. (Lk 5.4) Again to the CCR John Paul II declared, I pray most fervently that your communities and the entire Charismatic Renewal will “put out into the deep” of prayer in order to “put out into the deep of mission”.
Finally at the celebration of First Vespers of Pentecost in 2004, the last Pentecost Celebration of Pope John Paul II, he stated in his homily, “…we ... are gathered in this Square, which has become a great Upper Room … Thanks to the Charismatic Movement, a multitude of Christians, men and women, young people and adults have rediscovered Pentecost as a living reality in their daily lives. I hope that the spirituality of Pentecost will spread in the Church as a renewed incentive to prayer, holiness, communion and proclamation.” (See Helpful Resources, No 2, an article on website- At the Turn of the Twenty Century, A Catholic Perspective)
Journeying Forward – In 2006, in preparation for the Pentecost meeting of Pope Benedict XVI with the ecclesial movements and new communities, ICCRS called forth Operation Upper Room. During 2007, we continued our united world-wide Pentecost prayer journey. In 2008, ICCRS launched a two-part project – Pentecost of the Nations – for a new “culture of Pentecost”, which integrated Operation Upper Room, with Pentecost Celebrations; this first phase is 3-years until 2010.
In the last few years many countries involving tens of thousands of individuals on all continents have participated in this world-wide network of novenas and other prayer events and/or participated in the Pentecost Celebrations. In 2009, we continue our journey “to spread the spirituality of Pentecost” throughout all the nations of the earth. In 2010, Pentecost of the Nations will begin on May 14 and flow into the ICCRS Pentecost Intercession Event; The Road to Pentecost on May 19-23, 2010 in Assisi, Italy thereby launching the next phase of a 7-year journey toward the 50th Jubilee anniversary of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in 2017. |
